Derby Love

One of my very favorite spring activities is my annual trip with friends to the Kentucky Derby.  This year will be our fourth trip and I am pretty sure it will be the best one yet.  Mostly because we have the best seats ever this year on the second level right on the rail and because it seems like every year we learn more and have a better trip.  But, I am also excited because I LOVE picking out outfits for the Derby and the Kentucky Oaks on Friday.
It is truly one of the highlights of my year and with the amount of time and energy that my friends Lindsey and Dan and I put into planning, we could probably all learn Mandarin and broker world peace.  But who cares about that when there are outfits to plan and races to handicap!?!  Kidding.  The Kentucky Oaks is on Friday and features races with girl horses so many people including me like to dress with a pink theme.  This year I am shopping my closet for the Oaks and the Derby and will be wearing the above for Oaks day.  Straight outta Target circa 2008.  I clearly remember wearing it to dinner on my 25th birthday with Morgan.  I think we went to Tsunami for sushi which according to Yelp is no longer in business.  Anyway, since I'm not wearing a pink dress I plan to accessorize with pink, pink and more pink.  These shoes, and maybe this necklace and bag all direct from my closet:
Bought at J. Crew with Linds recently for a ridiculously good price.
I coveted this necklace for ages.  It finally showed up at my local TJ Maxx and when the price went down to $60 I snapped it up.  It is cute but HEAVY!
Pink satin perfection from my fave designer, Kate Spade.  Purchased at Nordstrom Rack and saved from destruction at a Kanye West- Jay Z concert by Dan.  Thanks for that!

So this is what I plan to wear come Friday, May 3rd .  I also need something to wear on my head.  I like to do a big hat for the Derby and a smaller fascinator or headpiece for Oaks day.  I may make something myself.  I will also be accessorizing with lots of money that I win of course.  What do you think?  Too pink?  Is there such a thing?  What would you wear?  Tomorrow: my prospective Derby outfit!
